Smartduvet: Dual-Zone Temp Self-Making Bed

Dear Backers, 

You will find below our latest update. Major steps have been completed in the last few weeks. Our new app is ready for you to try on both Android and Apple. We have been working for months to create an app that is both easy to use and beautiful, we can’t wait for you to see it. The app will provide you with complete control over bed making time, temperature settings as well as ambient lighting. It is also designed to run diagnostics, troubleshoot, and receive future firmware updates that will allow full control through Google Home as well as Amazon Echo (Alexa) and other home automation devices. 

On the assembly front we have modified our molding to include the latest changes following beta testing. Most parts we sourced and ordered in the last few months are at, or heading towards, the assembly line. We received news that our blowers were going to take longer than expected to get delivered. While we are waiting for our order, we are working with the manufacturer to purchase available blowers from their resellers to be able to start the production of as many units as possible in the meantime. 

Our packaging boxes are ready, we hope you like the design (see image below). Many miles of our ultra thin fabric was also delivered several weeks ago to the layer assembly plant. The Smartduvet layers are in full production and we are already stacking them in preparation of packaging. We have also received our first order of dozens of miles of heat resistant tubing used for our air connectors.

As we are working hard on a crazy double schedule between North America and Asia, we are happy to see everything finally coming together. The Smartduvet is composed of dozens of parts and we are conscious that any shortage or delay from any supplier could create assembly delays. We have been working hard on finding as many suppliers as possible for every component needed for our product to avoid such delays. With this in mind, we want to manage expectations and keep our delivery date realistic by accounting for unknown challenges that could impact production. Even if we are confident that our first units will come out of production in the next few weeks, we prefer to set the expected shipping date for mid July to account for potential hurdles which, based on our previous experience, are always a possibility.

We sincerely want to take the time to thank you for the support messages we received in the last few weeks. Every single one of them gives us a real boost and motivates us to work even harder.

Dear Backers,

Please find below our latest update. We have been testing the Smartduvets thoroughly in the last few weeks to ensure that all parts of our production version work seamlessly. We are very pleased with the results as only a few minor details were left to be corrected. We have already solved these issues and are integrating the solutions to our production. We found that our attach system was not ideal for thicker duvet covers and sheets. It also showed to be a little too weak to sustain long term clipping and unclipping. We opted for bigger snaps that allow for easier manipulation and can be used with thicker bedding. 

We also came across certain situations where a reset button would have been useful, so one was added to the control box. In order to allow for remote troubleshooting and customer support, we added a micro USB port and a pairing bluetooth button for older generation phones (since newer generation smartphones do not need such a button to pair with new devices). We are confident that integrating these latest solutions to our product will help us offer better technical support if users encounter technical difficulties or have questions about their device. Shipping will begin as soon as our first units come out of manufacturing in the coming weeks.

After our last update, the two following questions were often asked so we wanted to answer them here. 

1. Can you turn off the ambient lighting: Yes, the user has the ability to either open, dim or completely turn off the ambient lighting. The user can also choose the color of the ambient lighting from the full RGB spectrum.

2. How loud is the control box fan: For the climate control feature the noise level is very low and will vary slightly depending on user settings. For the Self-Making bed feature the noise level of the fan is higher (approximately 65 decibels) for less than a minute.

Dear Backers,

The last few weeks have been crazy as we worked day and night towards finalizing everything needed to ship our first units. We received our first molded parts from China and tested the assembly. We are very pleased with the quality and precision of the parts.

In the next few days we will be shipping our first beta units to our testers. The testing of these units will be crucial in ensuring the reliability of both our software and hardware components prior to full scale fulfillment. We expect this process to take a few weeks, once these tests are completed, we will gradually increase production and shipping by end of April while keeping a close monitoring on the feedback of our delivered units. We know that you've been more than patient and understanding and we truly appreciate your support. You will find below pictures and videos of the first units out of production, as well as the last version of the product in action. Thank you again. Dear backers,

As we are getting closer to shipping our first SmartDuvets, we wanted to give you a quick update. Due to the Chinese New Year falling in mid February this year, we are experiencing a small delay in the delivery of parts needed for assembly. We expect to continue production as soon as manufacturers reopen on February 25th. This will push the shipping of our first units to March instead of late February as originally planned. We know you all have been patient and are eager to get this amazing product and we can’t thank you enough for your constant support. 

We would also like to thank everyone who completed and confirmed their Backerkit survey. However, we are still missing hundreds of surveys, please send us an email to [email protected] if you did not receive one or if you need help filling it out.

Dear Backers,

Please find below our latest update:

Things are advancing at a great pace. We have received more factory samples and have been testing them for quality control and efficiency. The electronics have been finalized and we are now on our way to obtain electrical certification. We have set-up the manufacturing process for the layer and the molding of the plastic components.

Now that our latest control box design is patent pending, we are very happy to show you the production version. 

We have made aesthetic changes to the control box to give it a more refined look and included some last features to make the Smartduvet even more useful. The latest design now includes ambiant LED lighting in RGB with full control over light intensity and color. This will allow you to personalize your Smartduvet and will also provide you with the option to have a nice futuristic glow around your bed. We estimate to begin shipping by end of February and expect to fulfill most orders by end of March.
